Service Dog

Service Dogs are used for many different reasons.

We consider this the highest dog rank in the human world. They have all the privileges of travel. Their certification can get them in anywhere their person can go. We consider this a privilege to be able to use service dogs in public and we take the responsibility very seriously.

Over the years people have found that service dogs are not just for the blind. The dogs are employed for many different tasks and the list is growing.

Who are service dogs for  What do service dogs do

Service Dogs

Service Dogs are born with a heart that loves to serve! We just give them a Job. Service dogs are born with a nurturing heart. They want and need to please and care for someone. They are thinkers, overseers and doers and they want to learn stuff. They take pride in what they do.

Their only paycheck is the affirmation they receive from the person they care for. Therefore, the more the person understands about the service dog, the better they can work as a team. And a team they are, they are bound by the condition that brought them together. A need to nurture on the dog's part and a need to be nurtured on the person's part. It is a thing of beauty to see the relationship in action. It is not always perfect, but it is a thing of beauty. Service dogs are as essential as a wheelchair is to a wheelchair bound person. They are not machines, but we often wonder why an organization will fund getting a person a modified Van or a wheel chair and do not fund the Service dogs that will keep the person alive to use them.

Cat Can Do Training hopes that through the“Joshua Allen Service Dog Foundation” that we will be able to get more service dogs into the hands of those who need them. The funds that are raised will be used to help the person in need pay for an independent trainer, this way they do not have to wait for 2 or 3 years or longer to get a dog. Service Dog Info

We start with the need, then look for the dog. We hand pick the dogs at 6 or 7 weeks old. We work with both the dog and the person they are intended for. We place a prep dog, that knows basic obedience, in the home so the family can learn to praise and discipline . During this time we also find out the obstacles the person and the dog will have to face. We develop a plan to work through these obstacles before the actual service dog is placed into their home.

There are some occasions that we may consider working with an older dog. This would be determined on a case by case basis. The dog would need to be evaluated first. If the dog possesses the attitude and skills needed for the job, we will inform the client what will need to happen from there.

Just give us a call or send us an email to set up an appointment.
We look forward to hearing from you.

When emailing please include your phone number and the best time to contact you.
